Quality instruments support healthcare professionals, the patient and their next of kin in choosing the right care option. We therefore encourage the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of these instruments by developing decision aids, guidelines, patient information and measurement instruments.

Many improvements in healthcare are inconceivable without curiosity-driven research. That requires talented researchers and professionals who are driven by curiosity and ambition, and who work together to innovate and strengthen scientific as well as professional knowledge in healthcare.
The climate crisis is one of the great threats to public health. At the same time, the care sector itself has a considerable impact on the climate. In The Netherlands, the care sector is responsible for approximately 7% of national CO₂ emissions, partly through energy consumption, transport, and the disposal of medical materials and medication.

ZonMw is a participant in agreements made with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (through NWO) in the context of the Mission-driven Top Sector and Innovation Policy. Top sector policy requires public-private partnerships (PPP) and co-funding. What do we have to offer in the area of public-private partnerships?- Onze subsidies worden aangemerkt als financiële steun vanuit de overheid. We kunnen in veel gevallen toch subsidie verstrekken door toepassing van ’staatssteuninstrumenten’.
In 2027, ZonMw will launch a pilot for a new grant variant within the Open Competition line, the OC-M. With the launch of this pilot, ZonMw is responding to a clear need within the (bio)medical research field and promoting equal submission opportunities for researchers at different stages of their careers.- KNAW (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences), NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research) and ZonMw (Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development) will sign the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) on 18 April.
Eleven projects by excellent research groups have been awarded a TOP grant. This will allow them to revitalise their lines of research and enter into new collaborations. They will receive up to €675,000 for research lasting at least four and no more than five years.
