Monitoring and Evaluation of Dutch Tobacco Control Activities: The International Tobacco Control (ITC) Netherlands Study.
In dit project vulden van 2012 t/m 2014 ongeveer 2.000 (ex-)rokers een online vragenlijst in. De
focus van de vragenlijst was rookgedrag en de evaluatie van nieuw tabaksbeleid. Resultaten van
dit project hebben laten zien dat de vergoeding van stoppen-met-rokenmedicatie effectief kan zijn
om stoppen te bevorderen, vooral als deze vergoeding samengaat met een informatieve
mediacampagne. De vergoeding werd vaker door lager opgeleiden en door rokers met een lager
inkomen als reden genoemd om over stoppen na te denken. Verder heeft een verhoging van de
sigarettenprijs grote potentie om vooral rokers met een laag inkomen aan te moedigen om over
stoppen na te denken. Elektronische sigaretten worden in Nederland steeds meer gebruikt, waarbij
rokers vooral gezondheidsredenen noemden om e-sigaretten te gebruiken. De introductie van
waarschuwingsplaatjes op de achterkant van sigarettenpakjes in twee Europese landen had maar
kleine effecten in vergelijking met Nederland als controleland.
