Passende Zorg Lijn voor Academische Werkplaatsen Huisartsenzorg (PZL-AWH)
The transition towards appropriate care requires coherent and sustainable research and knowledge infrastructure connecting patients, practice, research, education, and policy. In general practice, such a specific research infrastructure is still lacking, resulting in fragmented knowledge development, implementation and scaling, and insufficient systematic use of knowledge. The Dutch General Practice Living Lab (AWH) and their national collaborative network (LSAWH) provide a strong foundation, but further methodological development is needed to support the transition towards appropriate care.
Aim
The project aims to strengthen a nationally connected knowledge infrastructure within the AWHs, aligned with the Cycle of Appropriate Use (CvGG), focusing on collaboration, patient participation, data, and methodological development.
Approach
The project consists of 5 interconnected work packages (WP): WP1 governance and coordination, WP2 patient and citizen involvement, WP3 data infrastructure, WP4 methodological development, and WP5 implementation and transformation. Together, these develop building blocks for a learning healthcare system supporting appropriate general practice care. The approach is phased: first a foundation will be established, followed by application and further development and eventually scaling and embedding.
Collaborative partners
Embedding within existing networks (AWH, LSAWH) and collaboration with stakeholders accelerates implementation and scaling. The project targets healthcare professionals, patients, and citizens in Dutch general practice. A population-wide perspective is adopted, with attention to representativeness and inclusion of subgroups, such as differences in socioeconomic status, age, and migration background.
Expected results
A coherent knowledge infrastructure will be developed and implemented, including a structural participation framework, FAIR data infrastructure, methodologies for evaluation and decision-making and an implementation and transformation network. Governance models, tools, guidelines and learning networks support sustainable translation into practice, policy, and education. The project delivers a uniform approach to research on appropriate general practice care. This will lead to insights into what works, for whom, and in what context.
The project strengthens a learning healthcare system, supports data-driven decision-making and contributes to appropriate, affordable, and sustainable general practice care in line with IZA objectives.
ZonMw and appropriate care
With the 'Kaderprogramma Passende Zorg', ZonMw contributes to the movement towards appropriate care. The programme stimulates and facilitates the necessary research infrastructure in all healthcare sectors. This allows knowledge to be better disseminated and applied in practice.
