ReUsable
The Dutch healthcare sector is responsible for 7% of the national CO2 emissions. Operating rooms are responsible for 30% of the total hospital waste. This waste includes single-use trays, made up of disposable sterile surgical gowns, covering materials and surgical instruments. A pilot study providing the opportunity to showcase the potential of hybride trays, whilst taking away financial risks for healthcare facilities, is needed.
Aims
The aim of our project is twofold:
- to demonstrate to the management layer of healthcare facilities in the Netherlands and Europe that short-term financial investment in our intervention will provide a substantial reduction of CO2- emissions and a concomitant reduction in costs in the long-term.
- to show professionals in the field, such as doctors and nurses, that a significant cultural and behavioral change towards more sustainable practices is necessary
