Always look at the bright side of life: a digital intervention to treat psychosocial problems in deaf/hard-hearing/DLD adolescents

Many adolescents with communication problems (Deaf/Hard of Hearing/DLD) have symptoms of anxiety and depression. One of the risk factors of symptoms of anxiety and depression in adolescents is a negative interpreting style of experiences and a greater focus on negative experiences. For the mental wellbeing of these adolescents, including at a later age, it is important that these symptoms are identified and treated in a timely manner. For these adolescents we have developed an intervention which uses cognitive bias modification (CBM), which has the goal to encourage an automatic (and unconscious) positive information processing style in adolescents. In the project ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ we examine the effectiveness of this digital intervention on the interpretation styles. Additionally, if proven effective, we develop an implementation plan so the intervention can be implemented within care and school facilities for our target group.
