Exhaled biomarkers in children with asthma and cystic fibrosis: towards better diagnosis, treatment and management.
Luchtwegaandoeningen komen veel voor op de kinderleeftijd en ontstekingsprocessen spelen hierbij een belangrijke rol. De huidige technieken om chronische longaandoeningen (zoals astma en taaislijmziekte) te onderzoeken houden echter geen rekening met luchtwegontsteking, omdat praktisch toepasbare meetmethoden ontbreken. In dit project, een samenwerkingsverband tussen de afdelingen Optica van de Technische Universiteit Delft en Kinderlongziekten van het Erasmus MC – Sophia Kinderziekenhuis, gebruiken we een nieuwe veelbelovende spectroscopische techniek om profielen van ontstekingsmarkers in uitgeademde lucht aan te tonen. Doel van dit onderzoek is om met behulp van een gemakkelijke test een gedetailleerd inzicht te verkrijgen in de aanwezigheid, aard en ernst van onderliggende luchtwegontsteking, zodat behandeling beter op de individuele patiënt kan worden afgesteld.
