PALETTEv2: houdt ouderen maatschappelijk in de running
Hoe blijf je maatschappelijk actief na je pensioen? En wat als je zelfs al eerder je werk kwijtraakt? Maatschappelijk actief blijven is een belangrijke voorspeller voor autonomie op latere leeftijd. En het draagt bij aan de kwaliteit van leven. Wie tijdig rekening houdt met een situatie zonder werk, kan problemen voorkomen.Hoe het werkt
Het digitale platform PALETTEv2 wil ouderen ondersteunen om (ander) werk te vinden, betaald of onbetaald. Ook biedt het hulp bij het opzetten van een eigen onderneming. De deelnemers aan het platform kunnen via onderlinge coaching hun kennis en ervaring op dat gebied met elkaar delen. Ook leidt het platform deelnemers naar mensen die ergens hulp bij nodig hebben. Bijvoorbeeld een klus in of rond het huis, of hulp bij het bezoek aan een zorgverlener of een andere dienstverlener of voorziening.Wat is de meerwaarde?
PALETTEv2 ontwikkelt geen compleet nieuwe oplossing, maar combineert de kracht van bestaande, aansprekende toepassingen. Het koppelt bijvoorbeeld zoekgemak à la Marktplaats met de aantrekkelijkheid van Klup, een app die oudere buurtgenoten matcht op basis van gemeenschappelijke interesses en hobby’s. Door in te zetten op het vormen van een (virtuele) gemeenschap, krijgen ouderen de prikkel om zelf het initiatief te nemen en hun eigen regie vast te houden. Samenvatting van de aanvraag
The project idea is fully demand driven. It is based on the permanent desire of elderly people to improve the quality of their lifes. To achieve that the PALETTEV2 project will introduce and promote the active use of ICT based solutions. The project aims to develop a comprehensive service environment or platform serving elderly people at home, but targeting other people as well (elderly residents, secondary and tertiary end-users). The primary services of the platform will cover some of the senior's main demand areas, among which we see social and economic issues as well as healthcare challenges faced by the elderly today and in the near future.
The main service areas of the system are:
1. Communication: social activities and contacts (with famliy, peers and others), leading to active participation in the community.
2. Health and care: living at home (or in a residential centre) as independent individuals
3. Life long learning: keeping up to date with ICT, media, general and professional skills, control of personal finances (insurance, easy access to one's personal account)
4. Working (job acquisition and entreprenership support) to stay active and earn an income beyond the pension age.
Such services show a tendency of only being available online, leading to the closure of familiar service locations like training centres and local bank offices. Elderly people are forced to go online to participate in modern society, just like people in other age categories. The main difference is that from the age of 65 and older, people are not as familiar with the use of ICT as younger people are. In this sense, their position regarding ICT is much like that of other people with limitations. A “design for all” approach could solve many existing and emerging problems at once.
The primary stakeholders who will benefit from the comprehensive service environment, are:
• elderly living independently in their homes – as primary end users
• elderly residents in home and care centres – as primary end users
The platform will also facilitate the involvement and practical support to elderly, provided by others:
1. Peers, family members and friends of the elderly – informal providers of support or care
2. Teachers, mentors, consultants - formal providers of support
3. physicians and health care providers – formal providers of support or care
As a result of implementating the PALETTEV2 System a number of essential improvements of the quality of life for the elderly will be enabled: direct online teaching, online and offline learning, participating in joint community activities (games, sharing the experiences of everyday happenings), job acquisition and work. These services include active support of the process by experts, which will cover initial assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation or results and other kinds of assistance to be provided on demand:
• as an online service (when appropriate and feasible for the elderly)
• or on the living location of the elderly, as long as the use of the platform is still too difficult.
The platform will provide online medical support and functionalities to coordinate home based care services, avoiding or delaying some of the numerous functional and psychosocial problems related to ageing. All PALETTEV2 functionalities will be adapted to the perceived needs of elderly people, taking empowerment of these target groups as a leading principle in design and development. This means that adaptation of systems and services is required to match the senior's level of understanding and proficiency as users of ICT based solutions.
