What's NECCST 2.0? The way forward in terms of chlamydia control
Chlamydia is een veelvoorkomende soa bij jonge mensen. De meeste infecties geven geen klachten, maar soms leiden infecties bij vrouwen tot onvruchtbaarheid. In dit onderzoek, dat de Nederlandse Chlamydia Cohort Studie (NECCST) heet, werd onderzocht welke gedrags- en genetische kenmerken het risico op langetermijngevolgen van chlamydia vergroten. In totaal deden 5.700 vrouwen mee aan NECCST, die werden gevolgd sinds 2008.
Aanpak
Door middel van herhaalde vragenlijsten en vingerprikbloed is onderzocht wie een chlamydia-infectie heeft gehad en wie moeite heeft met zwanger worden, onvruchtbaar is en/of een buitenbaarmoederlijke zwangerschap of miskraam heeft gehad.
Resultaten
Uit deze studie bleek dat de impact van chlamydia op onvruchtbaarheid gering is. Vooral chlamydia-infecties met klachten waren geassocieerd met langetermijngevolgen. Vrouwen met een doorgemaakte chlamydia-infectie hadden geen verhoogd risico op een miskraam. Deze resultaten zijn meegenomen bij de herziening van de soa richtlijnen.
